Five Easy Tips for Perfect Health

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

In this article I will give you an update on my vegetarian diet, also I will tell you a true story about a vegetarian cat plus five great tips for perfect health.

Being a Vegetarian (an update)

I have been a vegetarian for a couple of months now and it is going quite well. I have lost some weight and feel great. We rarely go out to eat or order take away. This is another plus point for my vegetarian diet. As I have said before there aren’t many options for vegetarians in north Cyprus, when you go to a restaurant.

I tried to go off dairy products as well but found Soya milk not to my liking. I guess I am a long way off from being a complete vegan (they don’t consume any animal related products like milk, cheese or yogurt). However that is not the goal I am aiming for. Actually I had no goal in mind when I decided to not to have meat or eggs anymore, it was more of a spiritual thing. I have to admit that this kind of diet makes me feel clear headed. I feel like a fog has been lifted of from my mind.

Vegetarian Cat

In one of Elizabeth Towne’s books she mentions that a day would come when the lion and the sheep will sit side by side in harmony. She said that with time what we humans do is reflected in the animal kingdom. So as more and more people become vegetarians so will the animals like lions and tigers. I had my doubts about that but just the other day I read a news article about a vegetarian cat. Strange but true!

As reported in the daily mirror a rescued cat turns his nose up at every thing but organic fruit and vegetables. The two year old cat called Dante was found near starvation by owner Becky Page. Miss Page of Tasburg, said: “I tried to feed him meat, fish, everything else cats like but he turned his nose up. Just as I thought nothing would work, he wolfed down a plate of vegetables I was going to throw out. I have to smuggle bits of meat in among the veggies so he gets all the nutrients he needs. But sometimes he spots the meat and leaves it. He has a unique appetite but he is certainly healthy”. Maggie Roberts, director of veterinary services at Cats Protection, said: “This is extremely rare. Cats are obligate carnivores and cannot be vegetarian”.

I guess this is what Elizabeth Towne meant. Due to the large number of people turning vegetarians and vegans at least one member of the cat family (and maybe more that we don’t know about) became vegetarian.

This unique cat’s current favourite include melon, bananas, broccoli, rhubarb, asparagus, aubergine and Brussels sprouts. Dante the cat certainly has good taste; we all could take a lesson or two from him. This kind of diet with a variety of fruits and vegetables can do wonders for our health. It will tremendously reduce the risk of many diseases related to an unhealthy diet like heart attack, high blood pressure, obesity and so on.

Some Health Tips

1. Have Salad

Even if you are not a vegetarian it will do you good to have a large bowl of salad with your meals. Raw fruits and vegetables are not only good for your physical health but also for your spiritual health. You will be more at peace with yourself. You will find it easier to relax and let go of any stress or anxiety.

2. Have a light dinner

Don’t eat a heavy dinner and have it at least three hours before you go to bed. I like to have a bowl of cereal or fruit salad for dinner. This helps me to sleep well and feel refreshed in the morning. Chew you food until it is almost liquid, for some reason this way of chewing helped me shed off my pregnancy weight .

3. Exercise

You don’t have to exercise for an hour every day, do it for half an hour, if you don’t have even half an hour then spend just 15 minutes doing your favourite physical activity. It could be walking, dancing, aerobics or jogging. It doesn’t matter what it is and how many minutes you spend on it the important thing is that you commit yourself to it. I am talking from experience, even a few minutes a day does make a difference. Try it for a month and you will notice how good you look and feel, your clothes will fit better and you will have a lot more energy.

Don’t think that you have to go to a gym. If you can then that is great but if you don’t have time for it then just get an exercise DVD and do it at home at your own pace. For me that is just what I do. I have a DVD called Pump It Up. I don’t do the whole thing but create a routine that suits me. That is what I like about it; you can create your own routine from modern dancing to high impact aerobics, depending on what you feel like doing. It takes me just half an hour to do it but I do it everyday, no excuses.

4. Breathe Deeply

Most of us have a habit of shallow breathing. This is the cause of many physical ailments. Breathing fully energizes you and strengthens your natural body defenses. Always breathe deeply. At first you will have to work at it but soon enough you will be able to do it naturally. When you wake up in the morning, start your day with a few deep breaths. It is better if you do it out doors if not then open your windows for fresh air while you are doing it. Do the same thing before you go to sleep at night. For more details and some great breathing exercises refer to Elizabeth Towne’s free e-book, “Just How to wake the Solar Plexus” .

5. Meditate

Like exercising you don’t have to sit in meditation for an hour. Start from just two minutes a day. Breathe deeply and ask yourself, “Who am I?” concentrate on your oneness with God. The power that runs the whole universe is also the basis of your individuality. Think about that. Meditation will help you to keep your mind focused on positive and constructive thoughts, this is most vital if you want perfect health. Whenever you feel a negative thought taking over you, take a deep breath and know that you are always connected to an infinite supply of love and life. You are at one with all good; nothing can irritate or harm you because you are always protected. The only reason we get affected by circumstances or people is that we don’t realize this inward sense of protection. Once you realize it and always have faith in it, nothing will ever bother you again.
