Kung Fu Panda (Review)
I just watched a movie with my three year old son. It is DreamWork’s animated film called “Kung Fu Panda”. We watched it on DVD. I wanted to see this film in cinema but all children’s films released here in North Cyprus in cinemas are in Turkish. My Turkish is not very good so I usually wait for the movie to come out on DVD. Anyway I think I enjoyed this film more then my son. Although he was quite entertained with all the colourful action but of course he is too young to grasp the message of his wonderful movie.
This is the same message I convey in many of my articles that is if you believe in yourself you can do ANYTHING. Nothing is impossible if you have an “I can” attitude. In addition to this simple yet powerful message, there are other pearls of wisdom in this movie. Listen in carefully to the lines of Master Oogway, an aging but wise turtle. If you haven’t seen it then don’t get the idea that this movie is all philosophy and no fun because in most parts it is hilarious. Also the voices of all the main characters are done by well known actors.
Let me tell you a little bit about the story line and then I will give you some of my favourite lines from the movie. The story goes like this, Po (Jack black) who is a chubby panda dreams to be a Kung Fu master. This is what he really wants to do but he is stuck making noodles at his father’s restaurant. His father is a kind hearted goose (James Hong), whose real relationship to Po is not explained (in my opinion this is a nice humorous touch).
High above the village where they live there is a Kung Fu temple called the Jade Palace where Master Oogway has a vision that the villain Tai Lung (Ian McShane), a snow leopard will return to the village. According to the legend only the Dragon Warrior can save the village.
In the ceremony in which the Dragon Warrior is to be chosen Master Oogway chooses Po by accident or as he said later, “There are no accidents”. Oogway believed in Po in spite of what he appeared to be, a pudgy panda. He saw in him the great Dragon Warrior who will bring peace to the village.
At first the star pupils at Jade palace composed of Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Monkey (Jackie Chan) don’t have much respect for Po. Here is how they talk about him…
“Tigress: You would think that Master Oogway would choose someone who knows kung fu.
Crane: Or be able to touch his toes.
Monkey: Or see his toes.”
Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), a red panda who trained them all thinks that Oogway’s choice was a mistake and he doesn’t make things easy for Po. However Po (who eats when he is upset) makes them all reconsider their opinion. He learns the true meanings of persistence and courage. He learns that a true warrior never quits. Master Shifu uses “food” to train him to be a Kung Fu expert. He uses the thing which was Po’s weakness to discover his inner strength. Watch it to find out how Po the chubby warrior faces merciless and quick as a lightening Tai Lung in combat.
This movie is very entertaining and funny. The animations have a peaceful and classic beauty to them.
My favourite lines from the movie
Oogway: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.
Oogway: One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.
Oogway: There are no accidents.
Tai Lung: You... you're just a big... fat... panda! Po: I'm not a big fat panda. I'm "the" big fat panda. Share your own review of Kung fu Panda If you have enjoyed this review, please click the Donate button. I am grateful for your support!
