Parenting Questions/Answers

Dear Gratitude,

My teenaged daughter locks herself up in her room as soon as she returns home from school & has become a total rebel. Please Help!!

Asked by vrinda from India

Dear Vrinda,

Please don't worry about it too much. It is just a phase and she will be out of it soon. Almost every teenager goes through it, I went through it myself. Don't make it a big issue and don't pressure her to talk to you. However do let her know that when ever she is ready to talk, you are always there to listen to her. She will come to you sooner or later if it is something serious. In the mean time if she is out of her room, make light conversation with her not about any thing serious. You can talk about a new movie you have seen or a book you are reading. Don't mention the subject of her being in her room all the time because the more you will press this point, more annoyed and difficult she will get. Don't get stressed out about this situation and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
