Personal Development Questions/Answers

Dear Gratitude,

I have a little dilemna, which is becoming a big, big problem. I have written goals and have had them written for 5 months now. Goals that I am happy with. I am fortunate enough to have all the resources I need to help accomplish those goals BUT(and that's a big but)I just cannot get to the 'doing'. It's driving me insane.

Can you help/recommend a book...anything?

Thanking you in advance.

Asked by Titan from U.K

Dear Titan,

It seems to me that either you are not very passionate about your goals or you lack the will power to put your plan into action and stick to it.

When you want to achieve something in your life you must have a burning desire for it. Only then you are motivated enough to actually do something about it. Half backed desires only bring half baked results. The reason why sometimes people don’t feel enthusiastic about their goals is that those are not their goals at all but somebody else’s. Either they want to please someone with their achievements or compete with someone who has done something similar. It doesn't represent their truest, deepest desire so it is natural that they are not excited about it. Make sure that your goals represent the real you. Having resources to accomplish something is a great advantage but it should not be the only reason why you want to do it.

So if you feel that your goals are indeed what you want to achieve then here is what you should do. You have already done the first step that is writing them down. It is a better practice to concentrate on one goal at a time. A long list of them can be quite overwhelming so much that you postpone your doing of it to next day, week or month. Some people quite successfully achieve multiple goals at a time but it takes a lot of practice and will power in order to do that. For now focus all your energies on one aim.

Next step is visualizing or making a mental picture. Everything in our lives is the result of an idea first possessed in the consciousness. Also visualizing helps to strengthen your desire for your goal. If you persist in imagining what you want it will open the way for physical manifestation of the mental picture. You should form a habit of visualizing your goal in your spare time especially before you go to sleep.

Another important thing is that above every thing else you should get in the spirit of your desire, meaning the spiritual symbol of the physical thing you desire. When I decided to create this website, I pictured the kind of information I will put out there, thinking only harmonious and constructive thoughts regarding it. I even pictured the layout and the colours I would use. Of course I have made changes and improvements over the months but overall it looks just as I pictured it. This is visualization. I knew that this kind of thinking gives my subjective mind strong, positive material to work with and it will go ahead and eventually bring this website into manifestation. After visualizing for a couple of minutes I would drop this picture and dwell in the spiritual symbol of it.

If you want to find the spiritual prototype of anything ask yourself what is the reason for its existence? What does it symbolize or mean to you? What use it is to be put or what does it stand for? For me this website stands for adding value to the lives of all it comes in contact with including my own. My aim is to help people overcome fear and worry by making them realize that they have a power in their mind that will enable them to contact the unlimited power of God or Spirit. We all have the whole universal mind to draw from, whatever it is that we need. This would give me a feeling of joy, assurance and security. I would imagine transferring this feeling of absolute freedom to others through this website. You should find your own spiritual symbol for the goal you intend to pursue.

So to manifest your aim firstly you must know exactly what it is that you want to accomplish. Secondly you should visualize it and thirdly and most importantly you should get in to the spirit of it by dwelling in its spiritual prototype. It will not do you much good to meditate a couple of minutes a day along these lines and spend the rest of your time worrying about the results. You should maintain a calm and confident mental atmosphere admitting no negative thoughts like anger, envy, jealousy, doubt, worry or fear. Live in your true mental attitude of love, life and harmony at all times.

If you follow these suggestions you will find yourself taking action in the direction of your desired path and even enjoying it, also you will attract to yourself helpful influences, opportunities and ideas.

As I said in the beginning a strong will is necessary to make you persist and never to give up on your goals. To develop your will everyday perform a task which you ought to do but avoid doing it. Spend ten minutes on it everyday for ten days. If you miss a day then you have to start all over again beginning from day one. The purpose of this exercise is not to make you better at this task but to strengthen your will. Keep that purpose in mind.

The book I would recommend to you is Dynamic Thought by Henry Thomas Hamblin. It is actually a 12 week course. Make sure that you read only one chapter per week. Read it as many times as possible during the week and practice the very simple but effective affirmations given by the author. This book is available free on this website and is listed on the Must Read Books page under the personal development section. I normally don’t recommend this book to anyone unless I feel that he or she is ready to receive this valuable information. In your case I think it will be most beneficial if used as directed.
