President Barack Obama, a role model for the new generation

No doubt it was a historic moment when Barack Obama took the oath of presidency and became the 44th president of United States of America. It is hard to believe that less then two years ago a majority of us didn’t even know who he is and now he is the most widely recognized person in the world.

He came from extremely humble beginnings, overcame all obstacles and achieved what he set out to do. He still has a lot to accomplish in fact his journey is just beginning. I am pretty sure that he has what it takes to get the job done. I am not saying that because I am caught in the “Obama Mania”. It is true that he has a great personality, a charming family, charisma and incredible public speaking skills but there is also something more. He gives out a vibe of hope, courage and enthusiasm.

The words in his inauguration speech though somber at times had a positive energy to them. The speech itself was based on hope rather then fear. It seemed that he was addressing each person individually, to be strong, to never give up and to assume an “I Can” attitude.

In my articles I always stress the importance of never giving up on your dreams. Well, President Barack Obama is the living proof of how nothing is impossible if you have determination and persistence. He is an African American, his father was a Muslim, his middle name is Hussain, he was not rich or famous neither did he came from a family of politicians, he doesn’t have much experience to run a country as his opponent pointed out a number of times and yet against all odds he now is the president of U.S.A. This clearly shows (given that your intentions are for the good of all) if you don’t quit on your dreams, you will be successful. If you have determination, you will reach your destination, it doesn’t matter if the odds are in your favour or not.

Barack Obama realized his potential and his purpose, so can each one of us. He never lost his poise no matter what his opponent said about him. Calmly and steadily he pressed forward, so can each one of us. He intends to bring about a change in U.S.A. and the world. You can change the world too but in a different way. Anything done with a good will and passion changes the world. We all are unique, with a different purpose in life. A singer, writer, painter, actor, business man, shop keeper, engineer, doctor, house wife or anyone else who loves what he does for a living no matter how big or small it is, makes the world better off.

Even when you think loving and compassionate thoughts, you are changing the world. Maybe you don’t know or believe it but the fact is that your thoughts have tremendous power and they have a profound effect on your life. Combined thought patterns of all of us shape the reality of the world we live in.

When your heart is in what you do, you produce the best you can. The love and joy that you feel is reflected in your work. Whatever it is then that you produce be it a product or service it not only improves your life spiritually and financially but it also improves the lives of other people too. It makes the world a better and happier place. It doesn’t matter how much of an impact you make on this world but the important thing is that you do.

Barack Obama in his speech said, “We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness”. He believes in the equality and goodness of people and that all of us are entitled to lead the best possible life that we can. I have heard the speeches of politicians before but his speech had a different tone to it. He was firm when he needed to be but also understanding and compassionate. I admire him because of his values, ideals, faith, courage, persistence and determination.

I would also like to say a few words about Michelle Obama. I don’t know much about her but she appears to be quite down to earth. When she came on the Ellen Show she seemed fun, kind and intelligent.

I really liked the white gown she wore for the inaugural balls. The gown was designed by a relatively unknown young designer “Jason Wu”. She didn’t choose some famous designer to make her dress but gave someone new a chance to show his talent to the world. Her decision to choose a certain designer may not matter much to people but it does speak for her character and of course it mattered a lot to that designer whose life changed in a big way.

Both the President and the First Lady, appears quite grounded. This is why people relate to them so much because they are like an average American family.

I am not saying that President Obama is perfect and will magically solve all the problems that people expect him to solve. He will make mistakes and learn from them. However he has a strong will, persistence and a good heart, I believe that these qualities will be a big help to him on his journey towards his goals and ambitions. Here are a few words from his speech, “In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted — for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things — some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom”.
