Going Raw for Three Days

I wanted to do this for a long time. In the past I started to eat raw for a couple of hours but then went back to cooked food. This time however I decide to stick with it for three days.

I made some research on this and read about people’s experience who went on a raw diet of fruits and vegetables. For some it is not just something they do occasionally, it is their way of life. They talk about gaining clarity and a higher level of consciousness. This is my first day so let’s see what happens. I will document all my meals and more importantly how I feel. I am curious to find out the mental, physical and spiritual effects of eating raw.

Today’s Diary

Breakfast 9:30 am

Salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, apples and olives with olive oil and lemon dressing) and a cup of ginger tea.

11:30 am

Two oranges

Lunch 1:30 pm

Fruit salad (bananas, apples, pears and dates). Maybe I should have had this for breakfast and salad for lunch.

After lunch I usually take a nap but today I didn’t felt like having one. I feel so alert but strangely calm. Two hours after lunch I had some grapes for a snack. I have never had this much fruit in my life. I don’t have a craving for cooked food yet maybe because I am eating regularly. I have noticed that I am eating bigger portions then I did with my usual meals and yet I don’t feel stuffed.

4:30 pm

It is early evening now and I am wondering what to plan for dinner. In winter there isn’t much choice regarding fruits and vegetables as in the summer but I making best of what is available. My husband (who is being very supportive) bought some mangoes but they don’t really taste sweet so I think I will use them in the salad for dinner.

Some Exercise 5:00 pm

Now I am going to do my usual half hour of aerobics, I feel so much energy that it is bizarre. I have heard that you get a boost in energy when you go raw but I expected this to happen after a day or two. Let’s see how I feel during my work out. When I turned vegetarian I also experienced a boost in energy but this time it is much more profound.

6:00 pm

Had a good workout didn’t feel tired, took a shower and feel so refreshed.

Snack

A banana and a glass of lime water.

Dinner time! 7:30 pm

Carrot Salad (peeled and grated carrots, chunks of mango and chopped nuts. For dressing one freshly squeezed orange and a tea spoon of lemon juice). Probably I will have an apple later if I feel like it.

During the day I consumed about 6 glasses of water. I wasn't really thirsty except during the aerobics but it is a good idea to consume enough fluids to help with the detox.

That’s about sums up my first day of raw diet. As you may have noticed my meals were incredibly simple consisting of what I already had at home but tomorrow I plan to go to farmer’s market to get some fresh fruits and vegetables and some herbal teas. As I said before I don’t have much choice this time of year but I will try to be more creative.
