Reincarnation, truth or myth?
I have been asked by some of you about my views on after life and reincarnation. First and foremost, don’t go to the second thing first. Take care of your life and death will take care of itself.
But since you asked about my opinion, here it is…
If you are new to spirituality or metaphysics then probably what I have to say will be too much for you to digest, so don’t read it now and come back to it if and when you feel like it. It is in no way my intent to criticize any religion or belief system. I respect all of them. As the saying goes, “there are many roads to kaba”. Everybody is entitled to believe what agrees with them at that particular stage in their life or evolution. All of us in our own way are on the journey towards the truth. It is not the question of if but when we will find it. And we have to look no further then within our own selves for this light of awareness.
Previously when I didn’t know what I know now, I was terrified of death. Specifically about all the scary stuff that could happen in the grave. To begin with waking up in a cold dark grave is horrifying enough for the poor dead person then on top of it he is asked all sorts of questions then rewarded or punished for eternity. It isn’t that I was living a sinful life or anything but being a woman I didn’t covered my hair in a traditional way and due to this I believed I would undergo all sorts of tortures by scary looking angels. Not that there is anything wrong with women who follow this kind of dress code. How you wear your hair is nobody’s business but your own. I only mentioned this to let you know why I was so afraid of after life. I thought of death as the most depressing thing. And somehow it didn’t made sense to me that I will go to hell just because of my hair.
I had questions, a lot of them. Deep down I felt that there is something I am not aware of. For instance if each soul is brand new then why is it that some people are born in poverty and others with a golden spoon in their mouth. And what about the babies who die, where do they go? Heaven of course, I was told. So isn’t it better that all of us die as babies and go straight to heaven? What is the point then to have long and sometimes a difficult life? And how about if we are not born at all in this world and all the freshly created souls go straight to heaven? If the whole point of our existence is heaven or hell then this is the best option. Most of my questions were based on “justice”, that God loves us all equally.
I believe that God is all love, God is justice and God is compassion. So how it is that for an average life of seventy or eighty years a soul could be condemned for eternity. Think about how long it is, it is never ending. It is forever. Not only that if I didn’t cover my hair and pray in a traditional way first I will be punished in the grave by scary angels until the judgment day then on that day I will be publicly condemned and then of course spend eternity in hell. This didn’t agree with my inner intelligence. But if I asked these questions it meant that I am questioning God’s authority.
Now the concept of reincarnation answered most of my questions and made more sense then what I was previously taught to believe. According to this concept souls are not new at birth. We all come from one source of universal energy or God and eventually will go back to it. We have always existed in some form. Think about it this way, if you take some water from a river, that water is not new but it always was and will be part of that river. This water has same qualities as that of the water in the river the only difference is of degree in the sense that the river is much bigger and can produce unlimited amount of water. This is what I mean when I say that we all are literally part of God as I explained in the article
Higher self, the real you
.
We have evolved from a lowly atom to where we are now. There are also other advanced stages of evolution. The purpose of our existence is not heaven or hell but advancement. We always go from one level to the next but never in reverse. For example a human can not reincarnate as an animal. We have no where to go but forward. No matter how short or long our life is we always learn what we need to in order to evolve. Each one of our existences no matter of what duration serves some kind of purpose for our higher selves.
We are born where it is best for us to learn our lessons and thus evolve. Each incarnation of the soul is not based on reward or punishment of his previous life but on the lessons that he needs to learn for his own betterment and advancement. There is no judgment on the basis of right or wrong. What is right for me at this point in my evolution may not be right for someone more or less advanced then me.
Universe is nothing but law. There is a system, a grand scheme of things. For example all the planets in our solar system stay in their proper places; there isn’t chaos but order in the universe. If the planet earth was further away from sun all the life on earth would have died due to lack of warmth and if it was closer to the sun the extreme heat would have killed us all. The earth is exactly where it is suppose to be and so are we in our lives.
Laws of the universe do not judge, they are equal for all of us. If you don’t comply with them of course you will suffer the consequences. Like if you put your hand in fire you will burn yourself. It is neither morally right nor wrong to put your hand in fire. It is wrong in the way that you hurt yourself and right in the way that you learned your lesson; you become aware of the fact that fire burns.
Each one of our incarnations is a learning sphere. Sort of like school, you learn what you have to and then go to the next higher level. When you learn from your experiences you not only receive spiritual awareness but also advancement in the physical world. You carry with you in your next life all the wisdom that you gained in this one and also the lessons that you still need to learn.
Previous incarnations, plus your unfulfilled desires and attractions determine the conditions you are born in to. You are born where it is best for you to evolve and grow spiritually. You have probably heard of people who rise from the depths of poverty to an abundant and successful life. These are the people who instead of blaming their circumstances, made use of what they had to their advantage. They knew that what seemed like a liability is actually an asset. They knew they are exactly where God wants them to be. As they cleansed themselves from discouragement and negative thoughts and emotions, they gained clarity. They found new opportunities and discovered hidden talents. Their circumstances helped them to be tough, to depend on themselves. They learned step by step from their experiences. They achieved their goals and also learned to be compassionate and helpful to those less fortunate then themselves because they know what it is like to be in that situation. Maybe they needed to learn the lesson of compassion or they needed to find their inner strength. Whatever it is that they needed to learn; when they learned it they advanced themselves and in the process achieved worldly success as well.
However you should always remember that wealth or money is an effect and the cause is within you. Inner peace and harmony will bring joy and success in your outer life. If you are not advanced spiritually at least to some degree, money will only bring you temporary satisfaction. Look at the lives of some of the rich and famous people, who have every thing but still they go on drugs and sometimes try to kill themselves. True and permanent joy comes from within, from knowing the God in you. When you realize who you really are and your connection to the infinite then you are really able to enjoy the wealth and success that you have.
Coming back to our topic, some people who believe in reincarnation have the habit of blaming everything that happens to them on their previous life or lives. This is a foolish way of thinking. Reincarnation is mostly responsible for where you are born and your childhood. After that it is your own
thoughts
, that attract to you what comes in your life.
Law of attraction
, like other laws of the universe is always working whether you are aware of it or not to bring to you the situations compatible to your predominate mental attitude. Thoughts of failure attract failure just as the thoughts of success attract success. Similarly if most of your thoughts are of negative nature like jealousy, hatred, anger, envy, criticism and so on, you will attract to yourself unfavourable situations. Until you learn the lesson of trust, love, compassion, forgiveness or whatever it is that you need to learn to grow on some level. You might ask that why do we need to evolve, why weren’t we born enlightened? This is like asking that why are we born as babies, why aren’t we born as adults at least mentally. Like I said before Universe is based on a system. There is logic to everything. Everything in the universe has evolved, is evolving and will continue to do so. This is how the system works. When a soul leaves the physical body, he evaluates the lessons that he learned and the ones he still needs to learn with the loving assistance of the higher power. If the physical world no longer assists his evolution he moves on to higher planes of existence. If there are more lessons to learn or if he is still attracted to the worldly existence or if he still has desires that are to be fulfilled by incarnating on the worldly plane then he takes on another life on this planet, in to the conditions that are most suitable for his purpose. So how come we don’t remember our previous incarnations? Well how much of your childhood do you remember? Do you remember the time you were an infant? Do you remember each and every day of the last ten years? From your previous lives, you don’t remember the experiences that you had but you do retain the wisdom that you gained from those experiences. This wisdom sometimes shows forth as intuition and sometimes as character traits. If we remember all the details about our incarnations, it could be quite painful for some of us who had to go through difficult experiences in order to learn and evolve. So we don’t remember the various incarnations that we had but we are aware of the essence of these lives. Do you sometimes have a feeling that what you are experiencing had happened before? You have had this conversation before or you feel a certain connection with someone you have met for the first time. A majority of us have these kinds of feelings, some more frequently then others. Also there are incidents where some highly evolved individuals remember exact experiences from their past incarnations. The point of this article isn’t to prove something but to give you some food for thought. I am still learning and have not figured out everything yet. Each day is a new opportunity to gain wisdom, to be aware of the inner light of joy and awareness. Death isn’t something to be afraid of; it is just another step towards your advancement. Don’t worry about it. Play the game of life and play it well. When it is time for you to go to the next higher level, go with joy and excitement, knowing that ALL IS GOOD. Update As I have come to know rather then linear reincarnation it is a case of multiple simultaneous incarnations as it is explained by the theories of quantum physics, I will post about it later on.
