To Retire is to Expire
Some of you are probably not even thinking about retirement but this is a must read article to inspire you to not to give up on yourself at any age.
The most important factor in staying young and healthy is to keep doing what you love to do. Retirement is over rated. If you love your job or business keep at it or find something similar. If you are bored with your job then find something you enjoy after you retire. You must have a
purpose
, a reason to get out of bed every morning. Like the muscles if you don’t use your brain it will become less and less efficient with time. To keep your brain sharp, use it! Read, write or put it to work at something that gives you joy and a sense of fulfillment.
If you are retiring after many years of working at a job that you are no longer passionate about then it is just as well. There is life after retirement a much fuller, happier and exciting life. It is up to you to make it what you will. We don’t have just one purpose in life but many. When we fulfill one of our aims the next one demands our attention. When you open up your mind to new possibilities, no matter what your age is, you find an opportunity to take you where you are to be. You move on to your next purpose in life. God works through you. Don’t stop this continual flow of all that is good. There is no limit to what you can do, regardless of how old you think you are. Nothing and no one can limit you but yourself. Maybe you can’t do what you used to do but you can do something new, even more fabulous then what you did before.
Be excited about life; know that you have much to do. Listen to what your heart tells you. Pay attention to your desires and you will find what you are to do. It is something that interests you. It is something that makes you happy. It could be starting a small business or volunteering for a fundraiser. It could be anything, anything that you truly care about. Don’t ever sit idle at home, keep yourself busy with what you are enthusiastic about. Don’t worry if you haven’t the means to do what you want to accomplish. Means always comes to those who are passionate and persistence about their goals.
Don’t use your age as an excuse to give up on life. You have a source of infinite life and strength within you. Follow a good life style and the rest will take care of itself. Keep yourself active. Walking is the best exercise. Take a form of exercise that you find enjoyable. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Above all don’t worry about anything. Trust the God or Spirit (or whatever is your preferred term) to take care of EVERYTHING. Maintain a happy and cheerful attitude of mind. All discomforts of the physical body come from what is in your mind. When your thoughts are focused on health and vitality, when you have rooted out fear and worry, your ailments if you have any will disappear one by one. Always remember there is someone in you and also all around you who is always looking out for you. There is no place where God is not.
Many people who are able to maintain good mental and physical health despite of being above a certain age say that they prefer to be around younger people, it keep them in good spirits. If you don’t want to do that then at least keep away from depressing topics while you are in the company of your friends. Be optimistic in your conversations. If you like to read then choose good books by great minds.
Now let’s talk about some people who are making most of their golden years, they believe that these are the best years in their life.
94 Year Old Heart Surgeon
Ellsworth Wareham is a 94 year old heart surgeon who still performs open heart surgery. He is an Adventist Christian. This religion pays a lot of attention on diet and health. The followers of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Loma Linda don’t smoke, drink alcohol or eat meat or processed foods. May be that is why Loma Linda, California is the home of longest living Americans.
Dr.Wareham also follows a vegan diet meaning he doesn’t eat any meat or milk related foods. Another important factor behind his sharp mind and excellent physical health is that he didn’t retire. He goes to work that he absolutely loves, every day. He has performed more then 12,000 operations and shows no sign of slowing down. He credits his passion for work for keeping him in such a good health. He doesn’t even take any medications. His hobbies include gardening; he spends 10 hours a week in his garden. In addition he has a very strong faith in the goodness of God. He does not worry about anything. I have said it before if you remove worry and fear from your thoughts, you can have a long, happy, healthy and successful life. Dr. Wareham is the proof of this. In his own words, “I think it is important for an individual to have some security and peace in his life. And I get that from believing in a loving, caring God, you see. And so if he is in charge of my life, why sit around and worry? I mean he takes care of the Universe, so he can certainly take care of me, so I don’t worry”.
A Bollywood Legend
Amitabh Bachen is one of my favourite bollywood actors. He was born in 1942 and made his film debut in 1969. Most actors his age or even younger in Bollywood have retired and have let go of themselves physically while he has maintained himself and is in excellent shape. He is still paired up with women half of his age in films.
When you feel alive and know that every day you are becoming better in some way, you look good too, as you can from the picture where he poses with his son.
He had setbacks in his life and career but nothing could hold him down. Currently at 67, he is one of the busiest actors and singers in Bollywood as well as on TV. Looks like there are no limits for this super-star.
More then 60 years in show bizz
You would know Betty white from the re-runs of the comedy series Golden Girls. Another one of her famous shows was Mary Tyler Moore Show. She also appeared regularly on game shows Password and Match Game. She was born in 1922 and her career spans over 60 years.
She doesn’t know the meaning of the word retirement. She still is a busy actress and made a guest appearance on a number of today’s most popular shows including, including Ugly Betty, Bosten Legal, Ally McBeal, My Wife and Kids, That 70s Show, Everwood, Joey and Malcolm in the Middle. She received Emmy Award nominations for her appearances on Suddenly Susan, Yes, Dear and The Practice.
The actress has lent her voice to several cartoons including The Simpsons, King of the Hill, The Wild Thornberrys and Family Guy.
She also appeared on various talk shows including Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Show. She also is a pet enthusiast and animal welfare activist and works with a number of animal organizations.
She is 86 years old and going strong!
Actor, director and producer since 1942
Richard Attenborough has been acting, directing and producing since 1942 when he made his screen debut in the wartime classic In Which We Serve.
He went on to pick many acting and directing awards for films including Shadowlands, Cry Freedom and even Dr Dolittle. He won eight Oscars for Gandhi, including the Best Director.
Now he is 85 and says that he has every intention of shooting movies for several years to come.

Don’t let your age hold you back
With age comes wisdom. With age comes the peace of mind. When you grow in age, you also grow in mind. When you shed the negative point of view associated with growing older, you can live your best life and love it.
This remind me last year I read in some newspaper that a 101 year old Italian man Giuseppe Buster who lives in London married his 98 year old girl friend after a courtship of more then fifty years. She still thought they were rushing things! Also the lively 101 year old who is a retired gynecologist found another job that made headlines, he signed up as an agony uncle for a men’s magazine FHM, offering guidance for a younger generation.
This just proves that even at 100 you have in you a purpose, something that you can do better then others. You are one of a kind. There isn’t any one else just like you. Your best life is not what people think it should be but it is what you want it to be. Your individuality is the key to your success at any age.
