Richard Bach, My New Favourite Author

Oct 10, 2009

Recently I discovered some amazing books by Richard Bach. Although he is not a new writer, his work is new for me. I hadn’t read anything by this author before I read, Jonathon Livingston Seagull (18 publishers turned down Richard Bach's story about a "soaring eagle." Macmillan finally published Jonathan Livingston Seagull in 1970. By 1975 it had sold more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone), reading it was like being transported to another realm.

After that I read another book that I have of the same author. It is called Illusions and again I couldn’t put it down. I have read it several times since then and amazingly every time I find a piece of wisdom that I had somehow missed before.

These books explain how the life works in a fascinating way. It is funny how I never heard of these books before but then again even if I had found them before I wouldn’t have understood the depth of Richard Bach’s ideas. Synchronicity works in incredible ways as I am noticing it more in my life now then ever before. What I need to know I find it exactly when I need to know it.

As a person you would find Richard Bach to be somehow unusual with ideas that some might find weird. I listened to some of his interviews and he has some very interesting things to say for example that is what divorce means to him, “When a marriage comes to an end, we're free to call it a failure. We're also free to call it a graduation.”

This is how I look at situations; nothing means anything other then how I define it. People are free to give whatever meaning they choose to give, to circumstances. Reality is what we make it to be. It doesn’t really matter what someone else might think of your ideas. They are free to believe whatever they want, as are you. Complete freedom is what we all have but we choose to believe in limitations and thus create a reality accordingly. Your strongest beliefs define your experiences.

I have discovered from my own personal experience that when I make myself happy, I see people closest to me happy as well but in the past when I put a lot of effort to create happiness for others it didn’t always created the result that I wanted. Also then I would blame them to not appreciate all that I try to do for them. Now I just do things that I feel good about, that excite me and I find more opportunities to go in the direction that I desire.

It doesn’t bother me what anybody’s opinion is about me because I know now that it is my own choice to get hurt or not to get hurt and I choose not to. What a relief and a sense of freedom. Similarly if my ideas are a source of discomfort to some they are free to not to read my blog. Their ideas are just as valid as mine; no truth is above any other. I feel unconditional love for all. We all have freedom to believe that serves us best.

Coming back to the work of Richard Bach, I have began to read another book by him, The Bridge Across Forever: A True Love Story, I have only read the first few pages and I want to read it all in one go. However I will take my time with it. Like a delicious chocolate cake I want to enjoy every bite. Other books on my reading list are, One, Nothing by Chance and Hypnotizing Maria.
