Vegetarian for Thirty Days

It is official now; I am a vegetarian for thirty days. Who would have thought that this day would come? However stranger things have happened. It is something out of the ordinary for me because I used to practically live on chicken. My day wouldn’t start until I had an egg for breakfast. The main ingredient in all of my favourite dishes was chicken. I wasn’t really fond of red meat but you could have called me a chicken person.

Although I wondered at times that what would be it like to be a vegetarian? This would happen especially when I would read something inspiring like how a diet of fruits and vegetables can increase the vibration of thoughts . I already knew how this kind of diet is good for the physical health but what I was interested in was the spiritual impact of such a diet.

In the past I tried to eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat but I could never give it up completely. I am not sure exactly why I made this decision now. As I was reading about the thirty day trials in Personal Development for Smart People by Steve Pavlina, I just said to myself that I would not eat any meat related products for next thirty days. This came as a surprise to me as well but I followed through my decision. It is not something that happened gradually but I went cold turkey starting from that very moment (yes, it is an ironic use of words).

I haven’t had any meat or eggs for two weeks now and the strange part is that I don’t miss it. I wasn’t even once tempted to go back to my old eating habits. I don’t know why that is. It is something that totally agrees with me. Also my partner has been really supportive even though he doesn’t agree with this sort of all vegetarian diet.

So how is it going? It is going great. I feel wonderful. The one thing I have noticed is that I have been in a really good mood lately and the only thing that I have been doing differently is not eating meat of any kind. Although I was mostly pleasant to begin with but for the last few days nothing seems to annoy me. My three year old son threw a tantrum the other day whilst we were in a crowded shopping centre. It didn’t bother me, actually I found it amusing. When he found no reaction from me, he stopped crying in about two minutes.

I live in North Cyprus, it is a beautiful place. It has a quite, natural beauty. It is a perfect place to find yourself, to really connect with your true self and to be spiritually enlightened. There are many restaurants here with excellent selection of dishes. The only draw back is that there isn’t much choice for a person who is following a vegetarian diet. Traditional Turkish food is donor or kebabs. So it is a bit of a challenge for me to eat out. Occasionally I would find vegetable burger or vegetarian macaroni on the menu. Even when I shop for vegetables there isn't much choice. However I am trying to be creative with what I can find. I can now make a mean grilled cheese, tomato and cucumber sandwich.

I decided to be a vegetarian not for health reasons. I have been a health freak for a while now. Already a major part of my diet consisted of fruits and salads. I preferred chicken and fish to red meat. I exercise and meditate. I have had no major health problems like sugar, blood pressure or stress. I wanted to undergo this dietary change to experience the boost in energy and thought vibrations that people talk about, who have gone vegetarian and I am experiencing it.

Since I could remember I always felt a strong sense of love and compassion for animals. I was always feeding stray cats and dogs and I still do. However I never thought about the issue of eating animals because I was taught to believe that animals are here to serve us and we humans are superior to them. Now I believe in the oneness of all God’s creatures and creations.

I don’t want to debate whether it is right or wrong to turn animals in to food. Who am I to pass to pass judgment? This is your own personal matter. Do what feels natural to you, do what makes you feel happy and at peace. The sole purpose of this article is to share my experience with you. From the looks of it, I have a feeling that this thirty day trial might turn in to a life long thing.
