Who is dumping on your dreams?

Did you ever have a dream or an idea that excited you or even scared you a little? Did you ever had a goal that gave you goose pumps? Why do you think sometimes you have these thoughts to create or achieve something? Do you notice a feeling of joy and enthusiasm that accompany these thoughts?

Thu Universe or God has a purpose for you. God speaks to you through ideas. An idea is a foundation for creation. That burning desire that you have in your heart is your purpose. You are not on this planet earth by chance or by accident. There is a reason why you were born. We all are born with a specific talent; there is something we are meant to do. Listen to the whisperings of your intuition . What is the greatest desire of your heart? That is the goal you should aim for. You are not here just to make a living but to make a difference.

Before we go any further let me remind you what I said before in my articles. Your goals should be for the good of all, meaning they should not harm anyone in any way or take something from someone. When you work with the Universe instead of going against it you connect yourself to the continuous and permanent supply of success, abundance and harmony. In the words of a wise man, “you are blessed so you can be a blessing”.

Don’t tell me that you do not have any dreams or goals because you do. The problem is that you haven’t let your true desire express itself. When you suppress the real you because of the negative comments of others or distract yourself with mindless entertainment, you kill your creativity and individuality. If you have an idea, act on it. Don’t let the dramas of life distract you from your purpose in life.

Let’s say you have a dream and you are pretty excited about it. You can actually see how great it is going to be. You can feel the joy of such an accomplishment. Then someone you know say something like, “oh, that will never work” or “you are not smart enough to do it” or “you don’t have enough resources, you are just wasting your time”. How will these comments make you feel? Maybe you will say to yourself, “Oh well, probably my idea is impossible to achieve, I better think of something else”. Big Mistake! If you let others make decisions for you, you will never live up to your true potential. What does potential mean? It is your unused power, it is your inner strength, inner capabilities that you don’t know about. When God gives you a dream, he also gives you the potential to accomplish it. It doesn’t matter how big or small the dream is. If your heart is in it, it is worth going after.

People who don’t rise above mediocrity are the ones who live their lives by the opinions of other people. If you are easily influenced by what others have to say about you, then you will not go very far in life. Don’t allow the media, your relatives or friends do the thinking for you. Otherwise instead of fulfilling your own purpose in life you will set out to accomplish somebody else’s. And you will not do a great job of it because it is not your goal to begin with so you don’t have a strong desire for it. Half backed desires will only bring half backed results.

Maybe you had noticed that sometimes your well wishers without meaning to do so influence you in a negative way. They might make fun of you because of what you want to achieve in life or jokingly tell you that it is stupid to aim so high. I have met people who have completely lost their focus in life due the influence of some well meaning bout ignorant person. Go for your dream. Your fear of criticism can kill your ambition. If the environment around you is mostly discouraging and depressing, then you will have difficulty in going after your goals. You should surround yourself with like minded people, who have a positive influence on you. However sometimes it is not possible to severe ties with your circle of influence. In that case don’t discuss your plans and dreams with them. Talk less and do more. Keep walking towards your destination with persistence, without paying much attention to what others are saying or thinking about you.

You will make mistakes no doubt. You will fall down at times but you just have to get up and start marching again. You will learn from your every mistake and it will make you stronger in some way. See your disappointments as an opportunity to grow and gain wisdom. Don’t take failure seriously. Take a look at your plans, make changes if necessary but never change the goal you are aiming for.

Before every success comes a waiting period, when things don’t seem to be going right. You see people and situations working against you. You just can’t see the silver lining in the dark clouds. This is the time when most people give up. If only they knew that success is just around the corner and if they keep at it for a bit more, they will reach their destination. If you are at such a place in your life then know that the sky may be covered in dark clouds but the sun hasn’t stopped shinning. You just can’t see it at the moment that’s all. It is only a matter of time before it will light up the whole sky. Keep pressing forward.

Defeat is temporary it is just a passing phase. Every great man and woman went through it. They had to pass the persistence test before they could enjoy their great achievements. In the words of Napoleon Hill, “Every failure brings with itself the seed of an equivalent advantage”.

There will be blocks in your way. Your dream will be opposed. People and circumstances will put hurdles in your way. Know that every great dream, every great idea and every great invention was resisted and opposed. You must not give up. Know that you have the courage to deal with whatever life throws at you. Good news is that you already have the seed of success in you; all you have to do is to look after it so that it can turn in to a giant tree. If you have faith and persistence nothing can come between you and your goal. In the words of Charles Haanel (Master Key system), “Remember that majorities are always led, they never lead. It was the majority that fought, tooth and nail, against engine, the power loom and any other advance or improvement ever suggested”.

I have researched the lives of many successful people and I found out that they all had one quality in common, that is Persistence. They just wont give up on their dreams, no matter how many problems they encountered. They wont quit on what they set their mind to whatever the circumstances maybe. Persistence is the key that opens all doors. Let me give you some examples. Henry Ford went bankrupt five times before he built up his Ford Empire. Thomas Edison failed uncountable number of times before he could make a perfect light bulb.

Let’s come back to recent times J. K. Rowling the author of famous Harry Potter series went from living on welfare to being a multi millionaire in just five years. How did she do it? It is obvious that she has talent but probably there are writers out there just as talented, who are living in poverty. The reason being, they gave up at the first sign of defeat. What she did differently was recognizing her talent, believing in herself and most of all she had persistence. The manuscript of her first Harry Potter novels “Harry potter and the philosopher’s stone” was rejected by twelve publishers. It was a year later when Bloomsbury a small publishing house in London accepted her manuscript. However they advised her to get a day job because they thought that she has a small chance of making money by being a writer of children’s books. Well, we all know how that turned out.

Sometimes what others are saying about what you can and can’t do may seem true. However you must know that things are not always what they seem. This is especially true for people who are born with a handicap or an accident causes them to have some kind of disability. Some of them let their handicap prevent them from leading a full and abundant life while others rise to the occasion and achieve unimaginable success and prosperity.

Let me tell you something, you don’t have to be perfect for God to use you. What you think is your handicap may very well be the thing that will help you to fulfill your destiny. Do the best with what you have. I have seen people without legs run a marathon, I have seen people without hands play great music, I have seen people who are terminally ill lead a purposeful life with a cheerful heart, I have seen people born in poverty achieve great abundance, I have seen people labeled unintelligent become great inventors. What is your excuse?

Don’t wait for the circumstances to change before you go after you dream. You have everything you need right where you are. What you think are your drawbacks could be your tools to achieve what you want. What you may think is your handicap is the very thing that makes you unique. Develop an “I can” mentality. When you learn to never quit and follow your purpose with persistence, you get access to the unlimited source of supernatural strength that has the power to turn every obstacle in to an opportunity.

Let’s take a look at the inspiring story of Abbey Curran . She grew up watching beauty pageants and wanted to be in one herself. Nothing unusual about that, most little girls dream about being a beauty queen. The unusual thing was that Abbey was born with cerebral parsley. Until age ten she wore leg braces. One day one of her teachers commented that her dream wasn’t a realistic one, given her physical condition. Abbey didn’t let these words discourage her; on the contrary she became even more motivated to pursue her dreams. She entered but lost in her first beauty contest.

The following year she won in a local beauty pageant. Finally in November 2007, Abbey was crowned Miss Iowa USA 2008, the official state delegate to the Miss USA 2008 pageant. While Abbey didn’t place in the semifinals of Miss USA last April 11, she will forever be remembered in history as the first Miss USA delegate who has dealt with a serious physical disability her entire life.

Abbey lives by the motto, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. If she was like everyone else physically, she would be just another beauty queen but now she is a special one. People will remember her. Also now she is a source of motivation and encouragement for countless others who are in a similar position. She is giving them hope. She is showing them never to give up. She has started her very own non-profit pageant for young girls and women with special needs and challenges. The Miss You Can Do It Pageant is now in its fifth year, and she dream of seeing this pageant become nationally known. Abbey is currently pursing her degree in public relations at St. Ambrose University. Her future goals include becoming a commercial pilot and she has already started taking flying lessons. Ofcourse people have told her that it is a long shot but this is motivating her to pursue her dream even more.

You should never stop dreaming. When you accomplish a goal, don’t stop there. Keep dreaming, keep achieving and keep growing. The day you stop advancing is the day you stop living.

It doesn’t matter how old you are. Age is just a number in your head. Your best days are not behind you, but ahead of you. You can be active, vibrant and full of life at any age if you believe you can. Love life and it will love you back.

If you have a handicap, sometimes you will be healed so you can fulfill your divine destiny. At other times you will have to live with it in such a way that your liability will turn in to an asset as was the case with Abbey Curran. In either case you must know that when you have faith and persistence, you can do what you want to do and you can be what you want to be.

Don’t believe the lies that people tell you, like you are not intelligent enough; you are not smart enough or you are not brave enough. How can such things be true when you have infinite wisdom, courage and power at your command? Look inside yourself. Recognize and feel this supernatural power. Clear your mind from all discouraging and critical thoughts. Sometimes even your own thoughts can be your worse enemy. When you feel hopeless or have thoughts of failure, this is your mind working against you. Don’t forget you are not your mind. It is a tool that you can use to attract desirable or undesirable situations, people or things in your life.

When you have negative thoughts you decrease your chances of attracting everything good to yourself. So if you are not your mind, then who are you? You are the consciousness or spirit that has a special connection to the universal consciousness or spirit. This is the one source which permeates everything. People have different names for this omnipotent source. I prefer to use the word God.

Remember egotism and self pity both are destructive to your goals. You should neither brag about your success nor feel sorry for your failure. Be courageous but understanding, be firm but kind.

It doesn’t matter where you are from, where you live, what happened in your past, what drawbacks you have or what anyone says about you, you are connected to the divine power. Always remember nobody’s “no” can compete with God’s “yes”.
